Merry mulching to all!

 

The City of Southside Place will be recycling holiday trees this year.  Please have your tree at the curb by January 12 for pick-up.  Holiday mulch will be made available to residents after January 19.  Please call city hall if you would like delivery of this magical mulch. 

 

 

Tax Rate And Bill Mailout

 

Property tax bills for 2008 have been mailed.  The 2008 tax rate is .347833 cents per $ 100 valuation.  Tax bills become delinquent in February, 2009.

 

 

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE YOUR SANITATION AT THE CURB UNTIL THURSDAY NIGHT DECEMBER 25.  PICK-UP FOR THE ENTIRE CITY WILL BE ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26.  

BELLAIRE BOULEVARD CONSTRUCTION FIFTY PERCENT COMPLETE

 

 

Bellaire Boulevard Reconstruction Project

 

On January 1, the $ 5.8 million Bellaire Boulevard reconstruction project will be fifty percent complete.  The new concrete roadway with drainage improvements, traffic signals, pedestrian lighting, and new bridge will enhance Southside Place for several decades after its final completion in late 2009.  The Poor Farm Ditch bridge reconstruction project near Edloe will begin in March/April 2009.  Bellaire Boulevard landscaping in conjunction with TXDOT will begin in early 2010.  During the past decade, the Southside Place City Council has secured $ 8 million in grant funding from METRO, TXDOT, Harris County, and the Flood Control District.  Please feel free to call or visit city hall with any suggestions or comments about the project scope.          

 

 

Public Hearings On February 10 Concerning Proposed Blair House Redevelopment 

 

On February 10, city council will be holding a public hearings concerning a proposed redevelopment plan for Blair House Apartments.  A Planned Development (PD) District consisting of a multi-family residential project is proposed at Blair House with four stories and a five level parking structure. 

 

In addition, new water and sewer rates are also proposed for both residential and commercial districts beginning in February, 2009.

 

 

PLEASE REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR DOG ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES WHEN WALKING.

The City of Southside Place would like to remind citizens to please drive with extra caution in the Bellaire Boulevard construction area.

 

 

Commercial District Report Quarterly Sales Tax Summary

 

During the last quarter of 2008, sales tax monies have decreased by 25% compared to 2007 data.  Please continue to shop within the city limits.

 

 

City Of Southside Place Town Center Development

 

During the next 30 days, the Hirdler Building will be demolished at the intersection of Edloe and University in preparation for construction of the new Southside Place Municipal Building.  Construction is expected to begin in March, 2009 and last approximately 10 months.

 

 

Shopping Safety Tips

 

1.  Park in a well-lit area.

2.  Always lock all your doors.

3.  Avoid parking near vans or other 

      vehicles with covered cargo areas.

4.  Have your car key in hand, ready  

      to unlock your door.

5.  Place all packages out of sight. 

 

 

Police Department Report    

 

The Police Department recently received $ 79,000 from the Harris County District Attorney for enhanced law enforcement equipment including cameras and a fingerprint identification.

 

Please remember that parking is not allowed on Southside Place streets between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM.  Parking facing the wrong way on a city street is dangerous and illegal according to state traffic laws.  In addition, parking is prohibited across sidewalks where children and adults walk or use mobility scooters.  Please be safe and courteous to your fellow neighbors.   

 

 

Recycling Wednesday   

 

Wednesday is RECYCLING DAY.

Please place items curbside by 8:00 A.M.

All plastics are being collected curbside.

Please do not drop pet waste into the recycle bags.

 

Plastic (All Numbers), Glass, Paper, Metal, and Aluminum Cans are Welcome.  The city is currently reviewing the idea of providing recycling bins for residents.  Please let us know your thoughts also.
